      A woman was killed and an officer was hurt in a collision involving a California Highway Patrol cruiser that also critically injured two others on Highway 101 in Palo Alto, authorities said. The crash between the patrol car and an SUV was reported about 6:50 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes approaching the Oregon Expressway and Embarcadero Road offramp, according to the CHP and Caltrans.

  • Man slain in West Oakland is City’s 111th Homicide, one more than last year (Oakland Tribune)

    An unidentified man shot to death in West Oakland Friday morning became the city’s 111th homicide victim of 2012, one more than all of last year, authorities said.
    Police believe the victim is a 48-year-old resident of another part of Oakland. Investigators are trying to confirm the man’s name and locate relatives.
