Interview: California and the Bay Area in the Civil War

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the Confederate Attack on Fort Sumter that began the Civil War.

Yesterday our newscaster Joshua Johnson put up a post about the Bay Area and California’s role in the Civil War. Below is his full interview with St. Mary’s College History Professor Carl Guarneri, which includes a recounting of a pistol duel between a California U.S. Senator and the state’s Chief Justice, and support for the union in both gold shipments and volunteers.
