Protecting mobile phones, laptops, and e-readers from theft are just the tangible aspects of tech safety at school.

Students should also learn how to be savvy social networkers (check those privacy settings), thwart “malware” (malicious software meant to infiltrate a computer), and back up all their data, says Huffington Post’s Christopher Burgess.

Little-known fact among students:

“Data hand carried between devices is one of the leading methodologies of having an otherwise clean machine become infected — the truth is, your machine may be very secure, but your neighbor’s, school’s or friend’s machines might not be kept as secure as your own.”

Not just for students, it’s good advice for everyone.
