Alex Jablonski

Originally from San Francisco, Alex began his career in New York City as an assistant editor for Spike Lee before moving west to attend graduate school at UCLA.

In 2010, Alex created Sparrow Songs, a new media documentary project in which he made and released one short documentary a month, every month for one year. The project developed a worldwide following with Filmmaker Magazine calling the films “poetic essays about love, truth, community and the ways we are choosing to live our lives”. The magazine subsequently named Alex to their list of The 25 New Faces of Independent Film. The work was nominated for a World Press Photo award, screened at IDFA in Amsterdam and is taught at the CUNY and UC Berkeley Schools of Journalism.

Alex edited the feature California Solo with Robert Carlyle, and produced and edited the feature documentary Low & Clear, which won the Emerging Visions Audience Award at SXSW 2012 and was hailed by Paste Magazine as ‘the best documentary of the year.”
