(DT9-1 thru 9-3, and DT54-1 thru 54-5)

KQED experienced a major technical issue with our Virtual ID info in our signals for DT9 and DT54, beginning apx 4pm Thursday 6/22, which was resolved apx 11am Friday 6/23.

As background, almost every TV station in the Bay Area now transmits on a frequency which is different from its old analog frequency. Each station’s TV signal contains “Virtual ID” instructions, which tell your TV to still label stations with their old numbers.

KQED’s Sutro Tower signal actually transmits on frequency “30” but the VID tells your TV to label it as “9”. KQED Plus’s signal from San Jose actually transmits on “50” but its VID tells your TV to label it as “54”. This is the feature that broke down yesterday afternoon.

Now that the issue is fixed at our end, many TVs will self-correct in anything from a few minutes to a couple hours. If your TV set has not yet returned our signals to 9 &/or 54, tune to 30 (for 9) &/or 50 (for 54). You should find our programming there. Let the TV sit on that channel for awhile. If it has not corrected after 2-3 hours, then you will need to do a rescan. Please refer to the owner’s manual for your TV for instructions on how to do that procedure.

Over the Air viewers of our KQET-25 signal were not affected by this issue, as KQET is one of the few stations that is actually still transmitting on the same frequency as before (25).

We apologize for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for your patience while we worked through this issue. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us at: tv@kqed.org
