A coalition of media organizations (including KQED) asked Judge Walker to allow cameras and recording equipment into the courtroom for closing arguments next week -- but Wednesday night the Judge said no. This was a replay of an issue resolved firmly by the U.S. Supreme Court in January. Both times defendants fought the request, originally granted by Judge Walker. On Day Three of the trial, the Supremes agreed with opponents of gay marriage that cameras could have a chilling effect on witnesses. It was no surprise that Judge Walker didn't want to go there again ... why get slapped down twice by the justices who may ulitmately review your ruling?
