Among those who were relieved when the Supreme Court blocked transmission of court video was Vicki Behringer. She’s the courtroom artist who sits a few feet from the witness stand, rendering water color paintings depicting the moment. Behringer’s portfolio includes the trials of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, Scott Peterson and (the one depicted on her business card) Michael Jackson. With no pictures from courtroom cameras and no photographers, television relies on her work for “courtroom color.” Behringer joked this morning that the Supreme Court ruling -- with its broad hostility toward courtroom cameras -- gave her “a little bit of job security.” Of course, she’s of no help to those of us in radio!
