This Week in Northern California Primary Election Special Features Interview with Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi

The special airs Friday, June 1, at 7:30pm on KQED 9.

May 28, 2012, San Francisco, CA — KQED’s This Week in Northern California will dedicate its broadcast on Friday, June 1, at 7:30pm to the primary election. The special will include a field-segment looking at efforts by both parties to woo Asian American voters featuring interviews with Democratic U.S. Representative Mike Honda and Ricky Gill, an Indian American up-and-coming star in the Republican Party, and excerpts from an interview with Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. The roundtable for the June 1 episode features such acclaimed journalists and columnists as Dan Walters (Sacramento Bee), Jerry Roberts (CalBuzz), Richard Rodriguez (NPR) and Carla Marinucci (San Francisco Chronicle).

In her candid interview with host and award–winning journalist Belva Davis, Pelosi talks about the Democrats’ strategy to win back the U.S. House of Representatives and the important role California plays in their plans. The full interview with Pelosi will be aired as part of the following broadcast on Friday, June 8, at 7:30pm.

Since becoming the first African-American, female television reporter on the West Coast in 1966, Belva Davis has been an inspiration for professional and aspiring journalists. She advocates community awareness through poignant reports, and demonstrates her involvement by being a board member for community organizations, a labor activist, and a supporter of African-American culture. Davis has over three decades of television experience, having worked first for KPIX-TV, then KQED Public Television 9, then KRON-TV and now with This Week in Northern California. She has received several dozen awards for her journalism, including national recognition from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Ohio State, San Francisco State and the National Education Writers Association. She has won six local Emmys, a Certificate of Excellence from the California Associated Press Television and Radio Association.
