KQED launched its new multiplatform news and public affairs program KQED NEWSROOM with host Thuy Vu and senior correspondent Scott Shafer on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 8pm. The series will continue to run Fridays at 8pm on KQED 9. The title is a nod to KQED’s groundbreaking 1968 program Newsroom, which was the first nightly news series on public television and directly influenced the 1975 national launch of The MacNeil/Lehrer Report.
The alumni of the original Newsroom organized a reunion on Friday, October 18, at Elastic Creative Studios in San Francisco to coincide with the premiere of the new program. The current KQED NEWSROOM team joined many familiar faces from the original series to celebrate KQED’s long legacy of innovative news coverage and reporting.
