Photos: Ultra Low Tide on Ocean Beach Reveals a Rare Scene
Ocean Beach experienced an exceptionally low tide last week, exposing areas usually well underwater and showing a natural beauty seldom seen.
The unusually low tide, a “minus tide,” was almost 2 feet lower than normal. It hit Ocean Beach at about 6:15 a.m. Monday, June 24. The previous high tide was more than 7 feet above the average high tide, making a 9-foot difference between high and low tides that Monday.
Frank Plughoff took some great photos showing an Ocean Beach that is at once both familiar and strikingly alien. Check out more photos of this extreme low tide below. All photos are by Frank Plughoff, who can be found on Twitter as @Earthnik.
