Last year, in the midst of a series of tragedies involving harassed LGBT teenagers, columnist Dan Savage and his partner created a YouTube video recounting their own experiences being bullied as gay teens. The message was simple but profound: It gets better.
That video became the genesis of the It Gets Better project, which has morphed into a major anti-harassment campaign. Politicians such as Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and even President Obama have submitted videos, and a Google ad highlighting the project has been airing on TV.
Now, at the urging of one of their fans, the San Francisco Giants are following suit. Sean Chapin's online petition asking the team to get involved has garnered 6,000+ signatures, including some candidates for mayor, and the Giants have responded, announcing they will indeed create a video. A team spokeswoman said the exact content has yet to be determined, but if it doesn't involve Brian Wilson, I'll eat my Giants cap.
