Calif. Picks Up Rail Money Left on the Table
The U.S. Department of Transportation is giving California hundreds of millions of dollars toward high-speed rail — that’s money that Florida turned down.
Fifteen states and Amtrak will share the $2 billion that’s now being redirected. Nearly $340 million will fund high-tech train cars in California and the Midwest. Another $300,000 will support high-speed rail from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
Florida Governor Rick Scott canceled plans for a line from Tampa to Orlando, saying he was concerned about its sustainability.
