Sen. Barbara Boxer held a press conference in San Francisco today. The Chronicle’s Politics Blog has put up a video of Boxer defending President Obama’s decision to support a no-fly zone in Libya:

Boxer also took aim at the GOP budget plan. From an Oakland Tribune report:

Boxer said Democrats have balanced budgets, turned deficits into surpluses and created jobs before and can do so again, but not under a draconian plan such as HR 1 which “in many ways is a political vendetta” against causes Republicans oppose. The GOP is quick to get “verklempt” — a Yiddish term for being choked up with emotion — not over people like Lee, Penman and Sovocool, but rather only for millionaires who might have to pay a little more in taxes, she said.

Standard Democratic-Senator Operating Procedure, one might be tempted to comment. Perhaps more interesting were the Senator’s comments on Elizabeth Taylor, who died today at age 79. The Senator lauded the actress’s early involvement as an advocate for AIDS research.

“I really admired the way she used her fame to step out, at an early stage,” Boxer said. “Remember in the 80s when people were afraid to talk about, and say I’m going to fight to see that there’s a cure…. It’s very tempting for a lot of famous stars to just hide behind their celebrity, and she used her celelbrity in that very important cause in a very important moment in history. And she’ll be missed, believe me, from that cause, and other causes she embraced.”
