Your Tumblr blog and Twitter account are more important to some employers.


Union Square Ventures recently posted an opening for an investment analyst. Instead of asking for résumés, the New York venture-capital firm-which has invested in Twitter, Foursquare, Zynga and other technology companies-asked applicants to send links representing their “Web presence,” such as a Twitter account or Tumblr blog.

    Talk about ageism.  This is rediculous.  No wonder 50 + year olds can’t get a job.  This is discrimination.

      No, it’s about expecting people to keep up with how things are changing in the workplace. Older people, if they are provided with training and take the initiative as many younger people do, are equally as capable of learning to interact in this kind of media. I know many much older than me who are far better than me at it. They may not have had the advantage of growing up surrounded by that kind of technology, but equally younger people can’t offer the same levels of experience as older applicants can.
