A Legacy
A decade long search to unravel the mysteries of the grandfather I never knew— has culminated in a manuscript and website to honor the legacy of early California artist and adventurer Tilden Daken (1876-1935).
He was a noted plein air naturalist who went to all extremes to capture the beauty of the West on canvas. His antics include: losing his home and art studio in the 1906 earthquake; riding the brake beam of a freight train with Jack London; lover of vaudevile star Sophie Tucker; siding with Pancho Villa and getting caught in the crossfire of the Mexican Revolution; painting during extreme winters in the High Sierra; capturing underwater scenes in the Pacific in a diving bell, and much more.
