Dear Stacy, Jean, Julie & Cassie: Thank you, all, for your supportive words! Stacy, I will indeed email you about an instructor for codgers like me; and Cassie, I will begin practicing the "backing maneuver" at the earliest opportunity -- though clearly this test is biased against those of us with relatively immobile necks. ...

good luck on the learner's test, josh - and remember to practice 'the backing maneuver' before you take your driving test! I believe that 'maneuver' is actually just backing up out of a parking space - but i failed it on my driver's test - cause i used the mirrors instead of turning around.
but i think that was because the gestapo woman officer didn't appreciate my new 'getting my driver's liscense' shirt i just bought.

just kidding!
i just found your blog, and i will really enjoy checking it out!

Best of luck Josh. Even though I have a driver's license I've only driven once since getting it, and that was back in '92. The Bay Area is a great place to live without a car, isn't it? (I know, it pales in comparison to the NYC transit system, but still...)

Holy Moses, if you need a rec for a driving instructor who works with adults rather than apathetic teens all day, shoot me an email and I'll give you my guy's contact. Having a professional teach you makes all the difference in the world. :)

Good luck!
