Profile: Lark Galloway-Gilliam is executive director of Community Health Councils, a Los Angeles-based health promotion, advocacy and policy organization dedicated to building healthy communities. Lark is an advocate for consumer rights, public accountability and quality health care for uninsured and underinsured communities throughout Los Angeles and California. During her tenure at CHC, Ms. Galloway-Gilliam has played an active role in policy development on issues that include expansion of health care coverage for children and families; preservation and quality improvement of the health care safety net; charity care and non-profit hospital conversion; environmental justice; health equity and the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities. Ms. Galloway-Gilliam has more than twenty-five years of progressive responsibility in the field of non-profit management and public administration. She received her undergraduate education at UCLA and a Masters in Public Administration at USC. She serves on a number of national and statewide coalitions and boards and has dedicated her life to social justice.
