Win a pair of tickets to music/film event Thao and the Get Down Stay Down at the Castro Theatre as part of the San Francisco International Film Festival on Tuesday, April 29 — the first of our Festival giveaways!


Singer/guitarist Thao Nguyen and her band the Get Down Stay Down will play live, accompanying classic, strange and funny films from the silent era, including: Charles Chaplin’s anarchic The Pawnshop, Robert Florey and Slavko Vorkapich’s groundbreaking The Life and Death of 9413: A Hollywood Extra, alchemical animation by Harry Smith and classic newsreels. The evening also features original short videos that Nguyen made in collaboration with filmmaker Lauren Tabak, including one created especially for this event.

Want to go? All you have to do to enter is answer this question:

"What is the name of the advocacy group that Thao Nguyen became a member of?"

Send an email to with the subject "Thao Nguyen" that contains your answer and your full name. From all correct entries, we'll randomly select one winner to receive a pair of tickets (worth $44.)

Deadline to enter is Monday, April 28, at 9am. Winners will be notified by e-mail on Monday morning, and tickets will be held at Will Call at the venue. Value: $22 per ticket. You must be a California resident and 18 years or older to participate. Employees of KQED are not eligible to enter.
