I Love it When a Show Comes Together

Posted on Tuesday 10 October 2006

Ah, the The A-Team.

After the bulk of taping is over and done with, Katherine, the director, will turn ask Tina, the series producer, if they need to do any "pickups." A pickup is a piece of dialogue or moment they want to recapture because the camera wasn't on the guest in question. They edit the piece in later.

Oh! Shucks!

It's pretty funny to watch the guests get into an acting groove and really ham it up. Kristine had to repeat, "Oh, shucks" several times without knowing what she had "oh shucksed" during the show. However, she gamely and energetically presented the director and producers with quite a few renditions:

"Oh. Shucks."
"Oh! Shucks!"
"OH, shucks."
"Oh, SHUCKS!"
"OH! SHUCKS!"

She finally remembered that her original "oh, shucks," came about as her reaction to Brian telling her she couldn't get Miller's East West Delicatessen bread and then she nailed it.

Later, when referring to Flora Gaspar of Da Flora, one of the guests had to repeat:

"She speaks German, too."
"Also? She speaks German!"
"She speaks GERMAAN, too!"

In the end, I don't think any of that made it into the actual show but it was certainly fun to watch. By the end of the pickups, the entire control room was greeting each other with, "OH, SHUCKS!" complete with energetic arm motions.

It had been a long day.
