We gave it a try because someone on the show gave it a thumbs up. Afterward, I really felt like I regretted it. Not trying to be mean about this but quite frankly I think that the food was mediocre. The service was fine but the place had a hole in the wall feel but without the good food of a good hole in the wall. I would overlook the decor if there was a really good food. The menu was very confusing and nearly impossible to tell what the dishes are. We got noodle dish, sauteed vegetables and kung pao shrimp. I can't say that I was excited about bringing the left overs home. Sorry. I would not recommend this place to a friend or visiting family from out of town. That was a mistake. Walking into the restaurant there was a bad odor, if we had not seen the show, we would have turned around. We were sat right away as there were many open tables. I think that we must have been taken for tourists as almost every other table had a menu with $4.95 each in big bold red print, I cannot be sure but it appeared that we were given the upside menu. The Peking duck for example on our menu was $18, and there were big signs on the wall advertising it for $9.99. A waiter came over to us and set a big bowl of what looked like white pudding. We didn't ask for it and we were not sure why we got it. After about 5 minutes he came over and asked us if we ordered the congee? We said no and he took it away. We ordered pot stickers, Szechwan prawns, and lemon chicken. The pot stickers were the best, however they were very bland, as was most of the food. The prawns were not at all spicy, and the lemon chicken had what looked and tasted like sweet thick pancake batter on it. The lemon sauce was hardly noticeable. We didn’t finish either of the dishes and certainly did not take them home. We had to wait about 5 minutes before anyone noticed we wanted the check. And by the way, the restaurant only takes cash, not visa and mastercard like the website says. I cannot believe that anyone on the showed enjoyed this place; it was as bad of a restaurant as I have ever been too. After watching the show we decided to give Hing Lung a chance.
