So after watching the Check Please Bay area program, I was really excited to try 1550. I have been 3 times and never have been dissappointed in my dining experience. The last time I went there were at least two other couples in the restaurant that had seen 1550 on Check Please, and they both agreed with me that this was a great recommendation.
Since I live in the East Bay, I like to take my out of town friends here so we can catch a ride on the cable car back to the BART. Definitely worth the drive and the price. Take advantage of the wine pairings as well. The chef can recommend a wine for any dish.
They have this espresso with gelato in it that is to die for. Get that and the Scharfen Berger Pot de creme for a lovely dessert (and of course the recommended dessert wines).
After trying this restaurant, we were pleased with the quality. The rabbit was delicious and the butternut squash tart shouldn’t be missed. The wine list is spectacular. I recommend ordering wine by the glass to pair with each course. The price for a glass is comparable to purchasing a bottle and it allowed me to try different types as well as keeping the meal interesting.
