Should there be a minimum wage? Is it time to raise the federal minimum wage? How might this be a good or bad thing? For whom?

Introduction

Is it time to raise the federal minimum wage? President Obama endorsed the idea in his State of the Union address. He called for increasing the federal minimum wage in stages from $7.25 to $9 by the end of 2015, and then linking further increases to the rising cost of living. Right now for most workers it is set at $7.25, where it has been since 2009. This adds up to $15,080 per year which is just about equal to the poverty level for a family of two.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 19 states and the District of Columbia have a minimum wage above the federal level.

The Lowdown presents the key arguments in favor and against raising the minimum wage.

The arguments in favor:
Since the economy has grown, wealth should be shared…. Full-time workers deserve to earn a living wage and be able to afford basic necessities like food, gas, and health care. It would boost the economy by increasing purchasing power, creating the need for more production and consequently more jobs. This would reduce dependence on social services. It is only fair since corporate profits have grown making the gap between rich and poor wider.

The arguments against:
It would hurt those it intends to help…. Raising the minimum wage would hurt already struggling small businesses by increasing their overall costs. Many American businesses might cut workers’ hours and outsource jobs to countries where labor is significantly cheaper. This would increase the unemployment rate, especially among younger workers.

So is raising the minimum wage the right thing to do? Students in San Jose seemed to think so. San Jose’s minimum wage is about to go up in March, after voters approved a ballot measure raising the minimum from $8 an hour to $10. This measure “D” started out as a class project at San Jose State University.

Raise minimum wage? You create a situation where business owners now need to raise costs and we must pay more for goods. Then, workers are able to buy less than before…

    • Mark Tobi

Minimum wage is necessary but I have mixed feelings about raising it. Like some others who’ve commented above and below me, I would like it raised, but slightly. More like $8-9 rather than $9-?, with the economy already getting better as it is right now and with a larger minimum wage more job loss is evident because small businesses can’t afford to spend more than they already are.

  • Raven

Yes, there should be a minimum wage but it should be limited to certain people. Teens who have a summer job or still live at home should earn minimum wage because things are being provided to them by their parents, but people who are working to take care of a family need more than minimum wage. They can’t get by making $7.25. So yes, it is time for federal minimum wage to be raised. Nothing is cheap anymore so we need more money. It’s good for people because they can better support themselves but it’s bad for small businesses who don’t make a lot of money in the first place.

  • Loralyn

In my opinion there should be a minimum wage, but it’s more suitable for kids and teens with small jobs since they still have their parents working and already supporting them. It isn’t really necessary to raise it just yet, but it should be raised eventually. It really just depends on peoples economic situations. Whether they’re in a good spot right now or are in need of some financial help. However, I agree that it would hurt small businesses so it shouldn’t be raised now. It is good to have more money, but not so much that it hurts other peoples financial needs.

  • Hannah

I think minimum wage is a good idea for our society because then people are equal to the people that are actually doing an effort of living in our society. If people don’t work or do an effort to survive at a cost then we won’t be equal. When people don’t have jobs or they don’t work then they aren’t equal to the people who are successful and who earn money for a living. Even though we feel for the people who don’t have money to survive it’s not ideal because there are ways to get educated and being successful.

  • Henry

I believe that minimum wage should not be increased as of now, but should remain the same. Things are slowly but surely getting better in terms of our economy and unemployment rate, which has dropped from 9% in Jan 2011 to 7% Jan 2013. It comes down to what’s more important. The money of small businesses vs. the money that the workers get. We are spending crazy sums of money to fight in the Middle East, in addition to North Korea, even though we have a cease fire. We cannot afford to have small businesses pay more than they already are, which would ultimatley lead to more jobs lost because of the money they’re losing (show in unemployment rate of last two years) I don’t think we can pull this increase off right now.

  • Ceara Wolfheart

I think we should raise the minimum wage, but only for corporate businesses, not small businesses. Large corporations can afford to give a little more to their workers, but small businesses cannot. Having a larger minimum wage will also take some of the stress of social security, so our taxes could go to other uses. Also, when people have more cash to spend, they can put some of it back into the local economy.

  • Kaitlin

I think it is necessary to increase minimum wage because there are families out there trying to make a living and supporting their families. However, it’s bad for small businesses because they would lose money, therefore it would hurt business and their workers. A bunch people are on their own and people need to support themselves and with minimum wage they can work their way up to be successful.

  • Kailee

In my opinion, minimum wage should be limited for certain companies. Large companies have more money, therefore can afford to give more than the minimum wage. Smaller companies have less money, therefore cannot afford to give too much more than the minimum wage. If smaller companies were to increase minimum wage, they would lose money. It depends on how much labor the workers are completing for their jobs.

  • Alex

I am in favor of increasing minimum wage because it does help the majority. Now, it will hurt the small businesses but since the economy is slightly getting better, they will slowly rise up to par. The only problem is the poverty it leaves behind for the businesses at the time. Here is a link of true poverty, it might make you change your mind.

  • Maelani

I think in order for our economy to progress, we will need to slowly and steadily increase minimum wage. Yes, I think we should remain to in force minimum wage because maintains a standard of how much money businesses should pay their workers at the very least while still allowing them to create a living for themselves. However since prices are rising everyday, minimum wage should raise as well so that workers can still afford these products and/or services with prices on the rise. Raising minimum wage would immediately benefit the workers but still benefit businesses in the long run.

  • Andrew

I think the minimum wage should be increased. This would raise everyone’s incomes, not just the people who make minimum wage. It would not only make everyone happier, but also help the economy grow. Higher wages would allow people to buy more products, and companies selling those products would make more money and hire more workers to help sell their products.

  • tony

yes i think minimum wage shoul be raised because nowadays the average american cant live off what it is right now at 7.25

  • Madelyn v.

The minimum wage should be based in how much the city makes or costs. Like the bay area is pretty expensive then other cities in the country and it should be raised here. But i think it should be raised and not raised because if its raised it would help citizens have a job with more money but it would leave a lot of other people unemployed. But if its not raised many people wont have much money but they will earn at least something and there would be more jobs for the unemployed
    .

  • Arturo Ramirez

i think the minimum wage should be raised but not by alot because business wont have that many workers because the rent of the business would go up and the business wont make any profit.

  • martin

I personally agree with raising the the minimun wage because people need it to provide their family, and that is hard to accomplish when you are getting paid 8.50 an hour.

  • Lacey

I don’t think they should raise minimum wage. If they raised minimum wage, businesses would have to raise their prices to pay their workers. So raising minimum wage still wouldn’t help those only making minimum wage. They still wouldn’t be able to buy the things they need. They would still technically be in poverty. The only thing that would change by raising minimum wage is that more money would be changing hands, and I don’t see how that is a benefit.

  • Nancy Lavalouis

I think that the minimum wage should only be raised for the poor.
The reason being is that the RICH ALREADY has money, and because we need it to help ourselves pay for school textbooks, etc.
We need our fair share of the money. So we can help ourselves pay off things we need to pay off! IT’S NOT CHEAP! To live in a environment that changes the prices every few days!
THE RICH SHOULDN’T HAVE A SAY BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT THEY WILL BE RICH AT THE END OF THE DAY!

  • Kadijah Love

Yes I think there should be a minimum wage , because i think its about that time to raise it cause people are not making enough money and plus everything is going up on prices so i think since prices are going up then our paychecks should go up too !

  • David F

yes it should be raised because we need more money to live in this messed up world

  • Antonio Sims

I critically think that the minimum wage shouldn’t be raised (BUT) It should be raised … Get It?

-If Raised: The price of living will go up such as fossil fuels, food, etc…

-If Not Raised: The price of living will stay the same but will shortly go up like how our daily lives are now, Its slowly but surely going up daily.

  • Claudia

I think that minimum wage should be raised because a lot of people can’t live off of $7.25 an hour. Not only that but people work hard to get the money that they deserve and I feel like they should raise it for such reasons. The American population is growing and more and more people are looking for work to help their families and themselves so it would be nice if they could raise the minimum wage for the country.

  • Monic

I think minimum wage should be raised up because some people work in a buiness and work very hard and dont get paid enough for there hard work.

  • tee parker

I think that minimum wage should be raised because its hard working for money and its not that much that your working for on top of bills to pay so yes I think it should be raised so that people can afford their bills and still be able to live.

  • Tracy

I don’t think there should be a minimum wage, because there are jobs out there that require a large amount of work, but the workers can’t be paid anymore than what the minimum wage is. I think that the workers should be paid whatever feels just, and not what the government regulates. Most likely though, minimum wage will be continued, and personally, I think it should be raised. This could be a good thing for the people that are struggling for money. However, this could be a bad thing because some people could take advantage of “large” money for a small job.

  • Sara

I think the minimum wage should be raised because there are many workers who do not have the ability to work jobs that pay higher than the current minimum wage, and are struggling to make a living on the small amount of money they have the ability to make. People who make minimum wage are also the reason for welfair checks and food stamps because they cant physically support their families alone, so they need help from the government. I feel raising the minimum wage could be a small start to resolving this problem.

  • Derek Nelson

Minimum wage is good. If there isn’t one, your boss could pay you like, 50 cents an hour! I think that currently, the minimum wage is a little low and this reform would be very good for many teenagers and young adults. It would help a lot of people who are in need of help and it would give more opportunities to people. If less people are hired, though, it would be bad. It’s a hard balance between these two problems and President Obama will have to find this balance and make it work.

  • Connor W

I believe that yes, there should be a minimum wage and that it should be raised. With the current minimum wage people are under the federal poverty line. If it is raised to $9 an hour they won’t be under the federal poverty line, and the government can save more money because they won’t need to help s many people. Raising the minimum wage will affect people who work hard but are only paid minimum wage.

  • Christian Y.

I believe there should be a minimum wage, so employers can’t take advantage of their employees and pay them less. For the most part, I believe that the federal minimum wage should be raised. It would give more money to those who need it to make it through their life. However, this might be a bad thing, because prices might rise in the surrounding community. Also, it would be more difficult for employers to have the same amount of employees, because the hourly wage is higher. So, it has its ups and downs.

  • http://LVCP.ORG Chuck Norris

I believe that there should be a minimum wage because it determines how much an individual gets paid without them getting exploited getting paid less for their work by companies or individually owned stores. I believe that federal minimum wage should be raised to help students and workers who work full time and part time. Raising the federal wage would benefit workers by helping them get above the poverty line. It would also help them buy more expenses and luxuries.

  • https://sites.google.com/a/lvcp.org/shannon-lessard-dp/ Shannon L.

When people take about raising the minimum wage, of course I would say that we should raise it. But when the other problems arise, such as cutting workers jobs, they the idea is in a delicate balance. I personally think that it is time to start to raise the minimum wage because the people can now live better lives. This would be good for people below the poverty line but this could have an effect on the people who are not below the poverty line. It’s time for a change.

  • river

Yes minimum wage should be raised because I work a minimum wage job, not full time, and I amtrying to save up for a car. I have been saving up for what it seems like forever. It sucks becuase I can not spend money on other things because I am focused on a car.

  • Lauren M

I think they should increase the minimum wage because people who work full time should be able to make enough money to provide for themselves and right now with the minimum wage at only $7.25 they are not able to do so. It would also help the economy by not having such a high level of unemployment.

  • Monica W

There should be a minimum wage so that businesses can’t take advantage of their workers, especially since a lot of workers who make minimum wage are young. I think that it is time to raise the minimum wage. It would make the difference to a lot of families who are on or below the poverty line. This would be a good thing for a lot of struggling workers, but it would increase the unemployment rate, which would make hiring people harder for a lot of business owners.

  • https://sites.google.com/a/lvcp.org/shannon-lessard-dp/ Shannon L.

When people talk about raising the minimum wage, of course people would say yes. But when the problems arise of cutting workers jobs, then it becomes controversial. I think that we should raise the wage because people living under the Poverty line need better lives. This would be a good thing for the people that need the extra help but the workers who are above the minimum wage might be cheated out for the hard work that they do. It’s time for a change.

  • Tomasa A

I believe that there should be a higher minimum wage, because it will affect many young people that are being payed minimum wage in a positive way including myself, some of us work to help our parents and others to get some money to be able to save up for college. It is not just young teenagers this can also help adults that are being payed minimum wage and they have to support their families. In my point of view i feel that it is time for the minimum wage to increase. This can be a good thing because many people can benefit from it and it can increase the life of many peoples life that just depend on one paycheck, but it can also be bad a bad idea because I feel that it will be harder to find a job.

  • Sheena D

I believe there should be a minimum wage because it would allow people to have equal pay and so companies don’t have to pay the workers what they want to pay them. Yes, the federal minimum wage should be raised because it would be convenient for other people with a family or young people who want to save up for college. Families should be able to have their wage raised so they can be able to support their families and not be below the poverty line.

  • Liana Qin

I think it is not good to raise minimum wage. That will only make the owners ‘ situation become worse. They will have to spent more money to pay for the workers instead of improve the quality of their business or technology. And on the hand, people will gonna to pay more for the life. That is not benefit even one bite.

  • https://sites.google.com/a/lvcp.org/kobyland/ Koby A

Yes, I believe there should always be a minimum wage because if there isn’t then businesses can pay people below minimum wage which places the lower class in an even worse place than before. I believe that if we raise the minimum wage then people will have more money to spend on other businesses. This will in turn raise the economy. This is very much a good thing for everyone because from there everyone will have more pocket money to spend. Though as much as the businesses are mad right now because of raising minimum wage. They will actually profit later because more people will have extra pocket money and they will be able to buy more of the businesses products boosting the economy exponentially.

  • Sophia C.

Should there be a minimum wage? Is it time to raise the federal minimum wage? How might this be a good or bad thing? For whom?
I believe that there should be a minimum wage and I like the idea of it being raised to help those bellow the poverty line. But if minimum wage raises prices will just keep raising even more. Prices are going to raise anyway, but at some point I feel like everything is just going to start costing a ridiculous amount of money because of this. Even though there are those who try to make more money out of raising their prices everything just raises together. I wish we could just have the prices of everything lowered even though that would probably be more difficult to do than it sounds, because you can’t just go to businesses and demand them all to lower their prices (of whatever they sell). The’re all just going to sit there waiting to see who gives in first and whoever does is going to be labeled a sucker for a trick. But anyway, I would have to say I’m more on the side for disagreeing with raising the minimum wage, though I also don’t want to see prices of everything keep raising while everyone’s wages don’t. Some amount of people are going to face some sort of income crisis no matter what happens. Whichever way happens, employees or employers are going to get hurt. But with out employers there can be no employees. So it really depends on which is actually more important to have in this system.

  • Lucila H

In my opinion I believe that there should be minimum wage, due to the fact that many people need the money in order to provide for their family and earning $7.25 is not enough money. It is time to raise the federal minimum wage because many people need more money. This might just be a good thing because now kids that are working there could get more money and save up for their necessities, like saving up for college and whatnot. And it will actually benefit a lot of people.

  • Omar Theighreylakoiders

I believe that we definitely need a minimum wage, because without one businesses would cheat people out of their hard earned money like they did in the early 1900′s/ late 1800′s. I believe that right now is not the time to raise the minimum wage, because we are doing so good on the recovery from the recession that somethings like this would mess that up. This reason aside, the raise would still be a good thing, because the people would be above poverty level. It would be a good thing for workers in big and expensive cities that receive minimum wage.

  • Joey C

I think there should be a minimum wage, I think its absolutely needed to have because of the price of consumer items right now. I don’t think we should raise it though, it will encourage businesses to hire workers under the table to pay them less, or even the jobs will be sent to another country like China where there is no minimum wage. This would be bad for the people that are currently at minimum wage, because they could also be fired because their employer cannot afford them any longer because of the higher wage. A higher wage won’t fix anything, but cause more problems for the people that live off the minimum wage currently.

  • Conner D.

Minimum wage is important, without it people could be payed so little it would send us right back to the erra of Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller. Now is the time to raise the wage, as more and more people slip past the paverty line daily. This is a great gift for those who are strugling for more money to support thier family. The minimum wage should only go to those who need it, not for teens and young adults who live with thier parents and have things provided for them.

  • Nate J

I do not think it is time to raise the minimum wage, the U.S is in an economic crisis and many people do not have a job nor the ability to work. Laying off more people will NOT help with bringing the economy to a stand. Raising the minimum wage will however benefit the people who are in poverty to a better standpoint, but it will not benefit as many people because it will prevent others from getting jobs. The cost of living might be very high, but I think it is a lot better to have more people with lower paying jobs than fewer people with higher paying jobs.

  • Royal M

Yes I think there should be a minimum wage higher than the current rate. Because if we were to give higher wage we could put citizens living under the poverty line a chance to live in the middle class. If we were to give them more income, it would also create an opportunity for them to pump more money back in the system. So the federal government should raise the minimum wage for the lower class workers.

  • Lily Zhang

I think the U.S should raise the minim wage because it can help the people who got lowest wages. So the overall American receive will getting much higher than last year at least. The United States is one of the important country that affect the global financial development. In other hand, everything has pros and cons. Some rich person could be getting richer and using the extra money to do some bad things like luxury entertainment. What worse, gambling, taking drugs, etc. But raising minim wages could save amount of people.

  • Nathaniel M

I believe there should be a minimum wage because then business owners will have to pay a certain amount to workers that way, workers will have to be paid that amount or more. I believe that minimum wage should be raised to help those who actually need it especially, those who are working 2 jobs and have kids to raise because they will get more money and benifit from it.

  • Avni

Yes, I do think there should be a minimum wage because that way workers get paid a certain amount everyday and never worry about getting paid way too little. I think it is time to raise the federal minimum wage because there are a lot of people that simply do not have enough money to provide for themselves and their family. This would be a good thing because it would help people afford more things that they need and have an easier time getting things. But it would also be a bad thing because small businesses wouldn’t have enough money to hire more workers and have to lay people off.

  • Araina H

I believe that there should be a minimum wage because if there was not then people could be getting paid very little and there may be more people below the poverty line. I think that it is time to raise the federal minimum wage so that people can be able to get by without extra help from the government. It is time to raise minimum wage because it is so low that people would rather receive unemployment than work for minimum wage. This would be a good thing for workers that are currently working for minimum wage because they would be able to more easily afford the necessities. Raising minimum wage would be good for people below and at the poverty line. It could also be good for the government because then they would have to provide unemployment for less people because more people would want to work because they would be getting paid more.

  • Gabby C.

I think minimum wage is good because without it, it would be legal to pay your worker whatever you want. Currently, America has just gotten out of the crisis that it has been in, but I think it is a little too early to raise the minimum wage. Inflation has gone up, so minimum wage should too, but I think that the government should give it a few more years and see how well the economy is doing before they raise minimum wage.

  • Drew A

I do believe that minimun wage should be raised. Why? Because honestly a person cannot live off of $7.25 an hour in most states. If we do raise the wage to $9 an hour, people will have more money. In result, people will be able to afford more things, and their money will be go back into the government’s pocket.

  • sabina

Minimum wage should be a livable wage according to cost of living per area. Where cost of living is higher, minimum wage should be higher.

  • Ilse Zepeda

I think that the United States should be able to raise a minim wage because the minim wages are able to help some of the people that have a lower wage. The Americans should be able to have minim wage to be able to e work and also be able to work.

  • Ilse Zepeda

I think the United States should be able to raise some of the minim wages since it can help people out.

  • Teen

Yea, but teens “like me” making min wage will never have it easy teens need the raise too! How about the silverware, plates, towels, mattress, shower curtin, and all those cleaning agents you got under your sink. No one thinks about the little stuff but that right there is just some of the basics of getting started. And that cost well over a months work on min wage, let alone rent, pwr, wtr, phone, car, insurance, gas!, for me it costs $600-rent + $100-city wtr+ $80-pwr+$50-phone, + $180 insurance “under 25″, + $150-car + $50 garbage =$1200 ….yeah and thats about my whole check after the governent [messes me up]. And well a bag of fruity pebbels and some milk….” with my plastic spoon and my ol coffee mug staring at the wall thinking about what i can eat for next week, wishing i had cable or even internet but gotta cut my losses with whats required. So think about it. Minimum wage is nothing. someone always has our money its not like it runs off and hides…….greedy ass goverment!!!

  • pamela webb

Minimum wage is when somebody is making 7.50 an hour .

  • pamela webb

the gorverment is not giving out more money

  • Angelica Smith

Should there be a minimum wage? Is it time to raise the federal minimum wage? How might this be a good or bad thing? For whom?
    - I don’t think there should be a minimum wage because people need more than 7.25 a hour to survive in he world at this point in time. Raise to the federal minimum wage is a good thing for all working citizens because it mean they will have more money to spend on more than just bills .It also mean no more living from check to check for many who is already doing that at this point and time. Its a bad thing for economy cause that mean cuts to programs and assistants .With the current minimum wage people are under the federal poverty line .

  • Kendria Lawton

There should be minimum wages for just the teens so they can get experience in the work world but once you become a adult it is time for you to have a real job not no $7.25 pay check the adult have more expensive responsiblities then the teens does.

    • Kendria Lawton

And no it should not raise.

  • dejah moreland

I very much agree with the position of raising minimum wage to $9. The cost of living has risen drastically and its almost impossible for a impoverished family to make a living making $7.25 and hours. As for the already striggling small businesses, I’m sure that some exceptions can be made in oreder to keep them in business.

  • Glenecia Smith

I Believe they should raise the mininum wage to $10. no they hould not raie the federal minimum wage because the people who are working will have to pay more money.

  • Brianna Stephens

I think President Obama should raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.00 because it work let poor workers get more money. There should be a minimum wage. It is now time to raise it, since it hasn’t been risen since 2009. This could be a good thing for everyone.

  • Areleesia Bell

I don’t think there should be a minimum wage because 7.25 is not alot to get by. It should at least be raised to about $10 beacuse you could be enough to just get by from week to week. Everyone should get a raise if you work hard and alao it should be raised if inflation is rising. You have to life off the things you buy which are not cheap at all.

  • hydeia beaty

I think it is a great thing to raise minimum wages. Many people have families to take care of and they can’t do that with the wages the government is giving. In the world today, nothing is cheap anymore. Everyone deserves a raise if they work hard. Raising minimum wage would be a good thing to those who are still struggling with bills even when they do recieve a pay check. Many people can’t do much with 7.50 an hour if they only worked 8 hours.

Should there be a minimum wage? Yes it should be a minimum wage, but it should be raised. 7:25 isnt enough as you can see theres alot of people on poverty level and you dont have to be homeless to fit into that category. Minimum wages should be raised instead of none at all. Is it time to raise the federal minimun wage? Yes it is because as demand increase you are going to need more money to get those things you need. It also has been 7.25, as it read since 2009, so why not increase it now. How might this be a good or bad thing? For whom? This is a good thing due to your duration of life, you need enough money to last longer. You need to be able to afford those items, because you work hard enough for it. This will help every teen and adults, so help make others smile, instead of just yourself. This is like a healthy food that will last for a adequately amount of time.

I think the wages should increase, and it will be good to have raised it because the workers have lives and in order to survive they need money. Food, Gas, Bills, children all need money. 7.25 an hour is less then what McDonald’s employees receive. It would be good to have this increase, the employees wouldn’t have to go get another job or have to get off work earlier than what is supposed too.It would be helpful to both the boss and the employee.

I’m neutral. It would be awesome if Obama would raise minimum wage, so many people would be able to have more and they would be above the poverty line. On the other hand, many people would lose their jobs and the unemployment rate will go up.

Should there be a minimum wage? well i say yes there should be minimum wage because you want have money if you dont have minimum wage so i said yes. Is it time to raise the federal minimum wage? yes i think is time to raise the federal minmum wage so people can get more money. How might this be a good or bad thing? For whom? Yes, there needs to be a minimum wage. No the minimum wage should not be raised the reason is because it would make small businesses shut down because of the higher amount to the employee check and a small business can not afford it. It can be a good thing since more money is being put into people bank and can be saved for their everyday needs. The bad is the price of products will be doubled and people will have to pay more for things. It can be harmful for people who can’t get a job because of the small businesses that might be gone because of the rise in minimum wage, and big businesses will only need a certain amount of people.

Minimum wage should be risen for the simple fact of living in this world today. It is time to raise the federal minimum wage and it will affect many people in both good and bad ways. Raising minimum wage would be good for the people living below poverty level today. In the economic system that is placed right now, every thing is constantly going up. For example: gas prices are continuing to rise. I don’t think it would hurt big companies to give people extra that are working and helping keep the company going. Most companies are making ALOT more than their employees, so it wouldn’t hurt to help them not struggle as much. On the other hand raising minimum wage can hurt little and beginning companies but those companies can sell different and new things to put the money back in the company.

I think there should be a minimum wage because the economy is already bad. The higher the minimum wage is the more taxes citizens of the United States. It is not time to raise the federal minimum wage. This might be a bad people because some people already are unemployed and in poverty. Alot of people are struggling right now for middle and lower class people.

Yes, there should be minimum wage because everyone has a part to play in America and everyone has to live. Its a good thing for low class people and those that are not “qualified” because looking back on there records, they may not be able to afford things such as first class people, they may need governments assistant and what not. however this could be a bad thing for first class people simply because they don’t like the fact that they are paying a percentage in minimum wage.
