leslie sbroccoMy name is Leslie Sbrocco and I’m the host of Check, Please! Bay Area. Each week, I will be sharing my tasting notes about the wine the guests and I drank on set during the taping of the show.

Wines of the Week: KQED Wine Club
Our guests enjoyed these two delicious offerings from the KQED Wine Club. Tonight’s wines spotlight Old World elegance. Join the club!

2005 Domaine Michel Delorme, Pouilly-Fuissé, France
Among Chardonnay lovers, Pouilly-Fuissé has cache. From grapes grown at the intersection of the small towns of Pouilly and Fuissé in southern Burgundy in France, this juicy white with mineral aromas is classically styled.

2003 Macula “Tandem,” Navarra, Spain
A hint of age mellows the tannic grip of this spicy red, which makes a lovely match for grilled lamb with roasted potatoes.

Special Wine
2005 Signorello Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California
This bold Cabernet Sauvignon is the embodiment of the saying, “iron fist in a velvet glove.” With touches of Merlot and Cabernet Franc blended for complexity, this powerful yet plush wine is a keeper.

ON CHECK PLEASE REVIEW WE FELT THE YOUNG LADY WAS WAY OFF BASE ABOUT JOE’S OF WESTLAKE. JOE’S CONSISTENTLY OFFERS A GREAT MEAL AT A GREAT PRICE. THEIR SPAGHETTI SAUCE IS SUPERB. ANYTHING CHARBROILED IS WONDERFUL, BUT THE BEST THING THERE IS “THE HAMBURGER” A HUGE PINK MOIST OVAL PATTY ON A FRENCH ROLL. THIS BURGER WAS MADE FOR THE BREAD (WE HAVE IT WITH SWISS CHEESE). THE JUICES SOAK INTO THE BREAD, THE FLAVOR IS SO GOOD YOU NEED NOT ADD ANYTHING ELSE (FORGET LETTUCE, TOMATO, ONION…) INSTEAD OF FRIES HAVE THE SPAGHETTI AND ASK FOR EXTRA SAUCE. THE TWO ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER. YOU CAN DIP YOUR BURGER NOW AND THEN IN THE MARINARA, YUM; BUT THIS BURGER NEEDS NOTHING ELSE, I JUST ADD A DAB OF MAYO, BUT THAT IS IT. REST OF FOOD, SCALLOPINI,T BONE AND FAMOUS BRUNO STEAK AND FAMOUS JOE’S SPECIAL ARE ALL TOPS AND BARGAIN PRICED. BAR WITH LIVE MUSIC IS A FUN SCENE. IF PLACE IS TOO CROWDED OR YOU JUST WANT TO EAT AT HOME, YOU CAN THROW SOMETHING ON, GO TO JOE’S COUNTER AND GET FOOD TO GO. THE GREAT BURGER WITH SPAGHETTI IS SUPERB AT HOME TOO. JOE’S OF WESTLAKE IS A PLACE YOU CAN ENJOY EVERYDAY OR FOR SPECIAL TIMES BECAUSE THE FOOD AND SERVICE IS ALWAYS TOP NOTCH. THAT’S WHY CUSTOMERS LOVE IT HERE AND KEEP COMING BACK. THEY TREAT YOU LIKE FAMILY.

I THINK THE GIRL INTENDED TO PICK ON THE OLD MALE GEORGE. I DON’T THINK THIS WAS JUST BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T LIKE IT. ALSO SHE’S LYING IN MY POINT OF VIEW, I THINK HER GROUP LIKED THE FOOD.

  • Chantelle Mark

Look, my comments aren’t being posted. I have been to both Westlake Joe’s and to La Medetarrainee. Joe’s doesn’t want attention, if they do, they have a new owner. Also I went for the spaghetti and prawns and the prawns went down, so really someone at KQED might know me. Also the flames go down by themself on the fried creme and it is all alcohol so her Patricia’s order should be the sea food but if she likes the cocktail lounge then there you go. Not only that the hamburgars are great, if they changed the menu, it’s due to a new ownership, sorry.

  • Chantelle Mark

Yeah unless you know the place, you wouldn’t know. I think they got new ownership recently however. The girl was off because she wants updated places and although the food is great, she lied.
