Butter Chicken is one of my favourite dishes so when I'm in the area I'll definately pay Amber India a visit.

Amber, is not so authentic and the food is customized to accommodate non-indian customers but otherwise it is a good restaurant. I also agree that price wise it is on upper side and there are quite a few comparable cheaper Indian restaurants in south bay.

I kinda agree with Alan-- if you like watered down, non-authentic whatever non-indian food for white guys, don't go to Amber India. The authenticity will disappoint you.

i have to agree- amber india is a surprisingly great indian restaurant. the only thing someone might take exception to is that it is in a strip mall- but i think this just adds to the allure since you would never expect to find a restaurant this good at a location like that. i heard a rumor they are going to open another location in sf? that would be most welcome news........

ARE YOU KIDDING? I watched the show and was boggled by the lukewarm reception of Amber. This is one of the great Indian restaurants of America. I live in San Francisco and do the ninty mile round trip whenever possible. Done this for years, and it ranges from the extraordinary to the sublime. I spent six months in India, and since have eaten it across the world, and Amber is one of the very best. When I first went there years ago, I thought my friends were joking. It's in a strip mall, and until you are inside, you have no idea how luxurious it is and how much you will enjoy the food and ambience. Most of my Indian friends since college have told me the best food is in private homes, and they are probably right. Next to that, Amber. It is worth every dime. Also, it's full of Indians and their families. This has always been a great indicator of how authentic or just plain good a place is. Go there and see.
