Try it again!!! I don't know why you had such a sour experience but it's worth another try. And Oaxacan cuisine is NOT like all other Mexican cuisine. Step out side the box! Order different than a burrito!

El Jarro is not known locally for its service or its entrees. There is one reason Lafayette local yokels like myself love El Jarro: the sandwiches. I just finished the Cancun sandwich a moment ago and I couldn't be more satisfied. They are fantastic blends of pan-fried chicken, avocado, oaxacan cheese, ham, tomato and lettuce. The burritos and enchiladas may leave you wanting, but the sandwiches are something to write home about.

Greg,

Because you like TexMex is not a qualification for liking everything Mexican. The foods of Mexico, like most all countries varies considerably by regions within the country. If you like TexMex, only, this is not the place for you. But for those that appreciate excellent examples of Oaxacan cuisine. It is so very much better than the standard Mexican places that it stands head and shoulders above most. None of their food looks, feels nor tastes like dog food!

Joe,

As an ex-waiter (I am, too) you should know that things are well past their prime when you go in 15 minutes before closing. That is tatamount to culinary suicide!

I think Greg and Joe need to learn a little more about regional Mexican food. Ordering nachos is a better idea at the state fair than in a Oaxacan restaurant. Being from Texas means you could judge Tex-Mex or maybe even Northern Mexican food which is world's away from the cooking of the rest of Mexico.
I'm looking forward to trying it.
