I'm also in the mix with the people that were very disappointed with Picante. The mood was horribly average, with the exception of Soupa Azteca, which was awful. Tortilla Soup with a little chicken and watery broth? The chips were either overcooked or very stale, and the pitcher of margaritas was full of ice and lacking in alcohol. This place is beyond "kid friendly", it's kids everywhere. Kids are running around, on top of tables, and bumping into you while in line and at dinner. I'm not returning.

I was very disappointed in Picante. Bottom line, if you like “Gringo” Mexican food, go to Picante, better yet, save some money and just go to Baja Fresh.

Both my husband and I, (avid mexican food eaters) loved this restaurant. The food was great and plentiful. Hubby hade fish tacos and I had chile verde. YUM!! The tortillas were wonderful and the chips and salsa terrific. We will definately return to try some of the other dishes.

just returned from PICANTE and i must say i was quite dissapointed with the food. my hubby and i are Mexican food lovers and we were both quite upse that picante didn't live up to its name or reputation.
i must mention that i did like their flan and mole sauce, however, the tortillas while homemade were too thick and chewy. the carnitas had NO flavor and the carne asada came with rajas and wasn't good. the service was good and fast but the food overall wasn' t.

Despite almost universal praise for Picante -- it's practically sacreligious to speak ill of it -- I am one of several people who will never return. The food is quite good, no question, and we had all been regular patrons for many years. But at one visit about a year ago, we were literally accosted by two young men at the next table who threatened to "mess you up". When one of us asked the manager to intervene, and to call the police, he completely disappeared. The police were never called, the harassment continued and when we finally got up to leave, the manager offered us a free burrito for our trouble. Truly, we were afraid for our safety, and the best they could offer was a free burrito.

The next day, we wrote a letter to the owners detailing the incident. We never received so much as a boilerplate apology.

I have never had such a thing happen at any kind of dining or entertainment venue, and certainly could not imagine that not only would the manager neglect his responsibility to all customers, but that the owners would completely ignore our reasonable request for an explanation.

Sure, the food is good, the prices are reasonable. But if personal safety is at risk, no restaurant is worth the trouble. Never again Picante.
