This is actually my second time to The House. Both times left me wanting more. More flavor, more imagination, more service, more something…..

Review of the food:
Salad with fried chicken liver (probably one of the more adventurous items on the starter section). The liver was cooked well; the salad was just okay, no imagination with the dressing.

Tuna Club Sandwich. If executed properly it could/should have been great. But the Tuna was basically scrap meat, the bread was cooked in butter, and it was overall to salty. Also, it looked like it was literally thrown together. Tuna was only on the center part of the sandwich, after 2 bites, no more tuna.

I would not go back.

I eat out almost 4 to 5 times a week from casual dining to 5 star dining. I have been to almost every restaurant in San Francisco and the House is my FAVORITE restaurant. Everything tastes fresh and genuinely home made.
If you haven't been there...you MUST try it!

I first tried house with a large group of friends about 4 years ago and I keep coming back for more!

Favorite special appetizer: softshell crab -- so good it's evil!
Favorite dinner: Ahi tuna -- always the best
2nd Favorite Dinner: Pomegranate Pork Chops -- is it legal for pork to be that good?
Favorite dessert: Mango tapioca -- foodgasm!

I have never had bad service, quite the opposite! The servers are the best! I just love the place, plus it helps the chef is also an SF native ;)

The first time I went to The House was when there was one on 9th Ave. in the city. I remembered the food was great and so was the service. Fast forward 3 years later, I wanted to try the original House for my birthday. Again the food is amazing, but the service was horrible. Initially we had a servicer that seem very nice, but they told the special way too fast for anyone to understand what they were. We told them that we weren't ready yet, she said "no problem" and "take out time." Not a minute later another server comes and practiclly demanded our order. I asked her to tell me what the specials were again and I didn't understand what she said for one of them. When I asked her to repeat, I got the most ugly look from her. The rest of the dinner was a big mix feeling for me. The food was out of this world with great fusion ideas, but the rest of the nights service continued to get worst. When we got our food, she threw down my bowl. I doubt any any of my friends will be going back. May be we'll go back in another few years, if they changed ther servers.

I agree with all of the reviewers. The House is able to combine flavors and visual patterns for amazing and majestic presentation. I don't think that diners (in general) fully understand the challenging nature of making fusion cuisine. I know I don't. The House perfects fusion cuisine to an artform, and make the dishes taste and feel natural, rather than like an awkward amalgamation of conflicting flavors.
