We recetly caught the re-run of this show and immediately made a reservation for the very next night at 1550 Hyde.. what a dissapointment. The food was mediocre (it was clearly an attempt at good home cooking that fell short) and the prices were decent (for the City), but we certainly won't be going there again.

The 3 worst things (in order of annoyance):
The rude hostess (brunette with narrow-rimmed glasses)
Generally disorganized and dirty tables
Parking REALLY sucks in this neighborhood (as it does in most of SF)

The 3 best things (in order of appreciation):
The green goddess salad
The wine flight
Our waitress (the redhead)

We made a reservation and showed up 5 minutes early.. apparently they open at 6 and aren't ready until after 6. No menus, tables were sticky and dirty from the night before. We had to call the buss boy over to clean up. The hostess was very abrupt with us (and everyone, so it seemed). One couple got up and left after they were seated. I wish we had, but I fell like I had won the friggin' LOTTO in finding a free/legal parking space only a block away!

The green goddess salad was the highlight of the meal. The wine flight with the (pork) prix fixe menu was quite nice and our waitress was very polite and attentive.

The meals we had (the pork and the chicken under a brick) as well as the desserts (the apple crustini/tart with vanilla ice cream and espresso affogatto were all so-so and unfortunately not worth repeating or recommending. Total for 2 (with tip) was just over $100.

I have been to this restaurant twice since seeing it reviewed on CPBA. I love this place and it has become my favorite semi-upscale SF restaurant. I am going again this week and look forward to it.

On my second visit I had the MOST delicious rack of port (never heard of that before). It had a delicious crust on the outside and was completely juicy on the inside. Fantastic! I will never forget this dish and I hope they have it again. Luckily 1550 Hyde St. has a website where they post their menu, as it changes regularly.

Parking is pretty hard even with a Mini Cooper. If this restaurant was in my neighborhood (Bernal Heights) I would eat there a couple of times a month. It's great and is exactly the kind of restaurant I had been yearning for.

My husband and I visited 1550 Hyde for a belated Valentine's dinner this past Wednesday & we had a great experience. We got there early and at first the atmosphere seemed sparse but as the place filled, it livened up. The wine flight featured Pinot Noirs and was educational & fun. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the chicken under a brick that night but settled for the pheasant dish - it was very tasty. My husband tried the rabbit & loved it - great flavors & nice size portions. We splurged & both got desserts. I had to order the chocolate pot de creme (lived up to my high expectations - it's everything chocolate strives to be) and he got the special which was a rum cake with espresso layerings & shaved chocolate. Visually bland but what an explosion of flavors in your mouth. Overall, we had a wonderful time & would visit again.
