Things are getting complicated as May unfolds, from the race for governor to the soon-to-be fought battle over another state budget crisis.

On this week's Capital Notes Podcast, we look back at last week's GOP gubernatorial debate (which is now online) and the midweek chatter about polls showing the contest could be tightening.

Capitol Weekly's Anthony York and I also preview the budget fight that's about to begin, and the budget gap which grew slightly larger this week with Governor Schwarzenegger's decision to abandon a lucrative offshore oil drilling proposal.
