The omnibus spending bill approved by the Senate on Thursday night contains language banning funding for USDA inspections of slaughterhouses for horses. That effectively stops plans to restart the slaughter of horses in the U.S. to export meat abroad.
This year, 15 bills in 11 states attempted to make undercover videos on farms illegal. Not a single one passed. Activists say a broad-based coalition that tapped the grass-roots concern for animal welfare helped defeat the measures.
The street artist’s latest piece is called “Sirens of the Lambs,” and it features a bunch of cuddly puppet animals peeking out of a slaughterhouse truck, squealing with fear. The truck is set to tour around New York City for the next week and a half.
