San Francisco celebrated Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, on Friday November 2 in the Mission. This traditional Mexican / Mexican-American holiday honors ancestors and loved ones who are no longer with us, and helps us take a moment to acknowledge and reflect on the importance of those people. The images portrayed show the beauty of community, the commemoration of lives, and the rich cultural tradition that the Mission District has held for decades.
The San Francisco Giants celebrated their 2012 World Series victory on Halloween with a festive parade down Market Street, which culminated in a massive celebration in front of City Hall. These images reflect the enthusiasm and diversity of the roughly one million fans who turned out to share some San Francisco pride with their heroes.
My decompression from Burning Man Fertility 2.0 (aka Dustpocalypse) has involved a slow editing process reliving the visual experiences I encountered on the playa. My journey consisted of a vague agenda to search out food-related imagery to share on Bay Area Bites but I was quickly swept into a vortex of art, fire and fun that subverted my linear efforts. I submitted to the fluidity of life at Burning Man and accepted that wherever I ended up was clearly the place I was supposed to be for that moment. And, of course, I took photos of those moments.
