Coming up this Saturday is the Oakland Zoo’s 19th Annual Walk in the Wild: An Epicurean Escapade, their biggest fundraising event of the year.

From 5-8pm, guests “wine, dine & stroll” through sections of the zoo that are set up with tables from over 100 vendors in the Bay Area, including Oliveto and Plum. Then there’s dancing and dessert under the stars from 8-10pm.

Be sure to fast during the day if you go; my husband and I were overwhelmed by the sheer number of delicious offerings when we attended the event last year. Wandering through the zoo in the late afternoon hours was also a real treat, as well as taking a gondola ride to view the habitats of the zoo’s residents from above.

When she’s not working as an Interactive Producer for KQED’s QUEST, the science, nature and environment multimedia series, Jenny Oh is ruminating on food. An ex-resident of New York City, she took a hiatus from media production and served as a cheese buyer for the Union Square Whole Foods store in New York City. A resident of Oakland, you can often find Jenny pedaling around on her bike to keep tabs on food happenings in the East Bay.
