Here is the real recipe that was used. It involves frying french bread in butter then topping it with small sliced tomatoes sprinkled with sea salt, olive oil and fresh basil leaves.

Bruschetta alla Julie and Julia – Recipe
4 slices of french bread
16 oz. assorted heirloom type tomatoes; Cherry tomatoes work best. Chop and seed them.
Extra virgin olive oil
1 clove garlic, peeled and halved
Sea salt
Chopped fresh basil
1. Toss tomatoes with 1 T. olive oil and about 1 tsp. sea salt.
2. Fry bread in 2-3 T. butter or olive oil in skillet, browning on each side.
3. Rub cut half of garlic over 1 side of fried bread.
4. Spoon tomatoes (with oil and accumulated juices) over bread. Top with chopped basil and more sea salt to taste.
5. Eat with plenty of napkins on hand.
Serves 2.

For the tomato recipe, I mastered it. It is very toasted, thinly sliced Italian bread. Chopped tomato with drizzled balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and fresh seasoning. Delicious and simple; Enjoy!

Anyone figure out the tomato recipe? I got Julia Childs Mastering the Art of French Cooking but I did'nt see it it there. It looked like tomato salad with larger bits of tomato. Could it be an heirloom tomato salad?

I'm voting with the those who are looking for the butter fried bread and tomato recipe. I've been dreaming about it since I saw the movie. Any luck?

I really enjoyed this blog, you were quite on about the movie. But like the first two I am interested in the Bruchetta recipe. Is it in Julia's cookbook? Seeing that I have it.

Okay, here's an actual about this post for you:

I love this post. I happen to think you are spot on about the film and you touch on some of the same, sticky metaphysical issues I've been grappling with regarding blogging.

Very well done, mister.
