It’s 5 o’clock, and you’re leaving the office in search of some post-work libations and snacks before dinner. You could go the traditional happy hour route — where you’re limited to a few drinks and small bites within a short window of time — or you could up the ante and visit a Japanese izakaya.

So you thought you could put away the sweaters and pull out the tank tops, did you? Well, no whining. Remember all that basking you did in January? We need this rain, and you know what? Here’s your one last chance to lounge inside on the couch with a fat book and something really good burbling away on the stovetop. Something distinctly non-local, in fact, as East Coast as a Red Sox cap or a lobster roll spilling from a Pepperidge Farm bun. Yes, I’m talking about Boston brown bread, steamed in a coffee can and slathered with cream cheese. Think of the best bran muffin you’ve ever had, then think of Amy Adams curled up in your lap feeding it to you bite by bite.
