My CSA box is from Eatwell Farms, Dixon, as well. I walk around the corner from my house in Oakland to pick it up every other week. This is my second year subscribing. I love their organic eggs and am largely satisfied. I don't have direct contact with anyone from the farm per se, but enjoy reading the newsletter to stay current w/ activities and such, on the farm. The quality of the produce is fine, sometimes spotty, but they ask for that feed back, and once when the broccoli I received was aphid infested, once I let them know, they sent me an extra item in my next box. So, they are receptive and accommodating. My only complaint is that some of the herbs and fruit are so out of the ordinary, such as lemon balm and lemon verbena(I'd rather have basil or chives or chervil) and kiwis in such abundance. i am not a kiwi fan and discovered not many of my co-workers are either as I would bring the bag of them in for offerings.

I just started with spud.com. I was very pleased with the produce I received. An additional bonus with this service is that you can build your own harvest box by picking and choosing from the fruits and vegetables available. They also have other items you can add for delivery.

Suchitra -- Which CSA do you use? I had read that some pickups have people handing out the food, but this obviously isn't the case with your CSA. Thanks for helping shed some light on the pick-up process.

I do not get to know my farmer better just because of a CSA. I go to the pickup location and open a lock and then pick up my box. There is no one there. The newsletters help me to know the farm better. It is convenient, but if I need to see faces of my farmers, for sure I need to go to the farmers market.

I'll definitely update you. For the most part, the quality was quite good other than some very small chard and limp garlic. I thought maybe those two items were a fluke. I'll let you know how the next couple of boxes turn out (although I'm only going to use them every two weeks). Thanks.

Let me know how you like Capay. I subscribed for several years but finally dropped them. My box was often missing an item and I found the quality to be spotty. Sometimes produce was not anywhere near ripe and not usable. Customer service was good, but I got the feeling I was getting what they couldn't sell at the market.
