Anita, I consider it a pleasure to have you two at least one order removed. Wink. I also find great comfort in the knowledge that Julia's ham is being served in her memory...

Zoomie- I have not seen Cooking with Julia and Jacques. I'm sure it's very entertaining. There's just one half of that bill that makes me want to vomit just thinking about, and it isn't Julia...

TasteTV- No doubt whatsoever. I'm only embarrassed that I was so otherwise occupied at the time it was all happening!

Netflix has old episodes of The French Chef available.

I remember watching these when I was a kid, and trace my love for food and cooking directly back to them (plus my own amazing grandma who also passed away this week). She is the master - fearlessness in the kitchen and full of grace and humor.

Anyone who doubts her sense of humor needs to watch "Cooking with Julia and Jacques," a hilarious special where the two try to cook together and, despite their evident love for one another, still disagree gently about how to make such and such a dish. Julia keeps sneaking more butter into the dishes behind Jacques' back and he, catching her at it, protests. I can't describe it - you'd have to watch it to get the subtle respect and love between them, tempered by their very strong personalities. I miss her - she was such fun!

We're not in your immediate culinary circle, but I think we are, at most, one order removed.

Does it help to know we cooked Julia's ham in piperade for dinner on her birthday? It was deliciously simple, and perfect with a side of her sauteed potatoes and a cool glass of rose.
