@ Kylie - There is no cream in the cake. In this case, "cream" is a verb and you're supposed to cream (beat) the ingredients until light and fluffy.

Is the reason everyone is having such problems because you did not list how much cream should be used in the cake?
I would love to make this, but can't imagine how so many people read over the part "2. Add sugar and salt & cream until light and fluffy."

Hello Shuna,
This cake looks fantastic and answers all the requests I got.
I have a question though: can I make the caramel syrup ahead?
Thanks.

I made this cake last night, it is wonderful. I am a somewhat surprised that it turned out well considering the fact that my caramel sauce was opaque. I am not sure why it didn't come out translucent. Any one have a clue as to what I did wrong? Loved the buttery frosting... very yummy!

This cake is FABULOUS! It is NOT however easy. I am getting better at it each time. My son asked for a caramel cake so I went looking and found this. He liked it and I liked it so much that I have made it and modified it for an Eggnog cake and a Chocolate Malt cake. It is so great. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I made this cake, and literally, it knocked my socks off! It is absolutely amazing, and I think it is the most delicious cake I have ever had. One thing, my frosting was lumpy, even after sifting the confectioner's sugar. I didn't really care because it tasted so good, but would love some tips on how to make it smooth.
